Refurbishment and repair

Over the years there are a few things that can go wrong with fibreglass cowls. We have repaired quite a few where the bases have rotted from the inside out. Many are constructed from inferior chipboard, and once any moisture gets in, the chipboard just turns to mush. In this case, the only way to repair the Cowl, is to get it down and repaired in the workshop, where we replace the base and fibreglass it back in. Whilst this is done its best to give the cowl a white flow coat all over, to bring it back to brand new.

The fingers on the fibreglass cowls can also be prone to rot out from time to time. We have removed many that have needed replacing and refitted brand new ones we have made. We always refit with new arms and bolts.

Be it a Kentish Cowl, Sussex Cowl or even a Cowl from Herefordshire there isn’t a style that we haven’t built. We are so very proud of all of our cowls and that can be seen in the finished products.

To keep a Cowl running smoothly, and free from squeaks and bangs, it’s very important to keep them serviced. We understand all your needs when it comes to servicing your Cowls. Whether it be a traditional timber Cowl or fibreglass construction, we have the knowledge to keep them at their best.

Wash down service

Whilst we at G&S don’t recommend washing down timber oast cowls, we have a great system to get fibreglass oast cowls looking clean and fresh. Over the years, a build up of algae, moss and other undesirable build ups, can cause the most beautiful of Oast Cowls to look tired and unsightly. And we can solve this problem, and bring your Cowls back to their former glories.
