Cutting and Pitching of Kiln Roofs
We at G&S are specialists in kiln roofs, and have been involved in cutting and pitching many of them. From the bedding of the wall plate, to the laying of the last tile. We pride ourselves in being able to come to site, measure up, and construct everything you need for a kiln roof, all in our workshop. From putting the wall plate together, to cutting all the rafters and jacks, ready to be assembled methodically piece by piece on site.
Be it a Kentish Cowl, Sussex Cowl or even a Cowl from Herefordshire there isn’t a style that we haven’t built. We are so very proud of all of our cowls and that can be seen in the finished products.
To keep a Cowl running smoothly, and free from squeaks and bangs, it’s very important to keep them serviced. We understand all your needs when it comes to servicing your Cowls. Whether it be a traditional timber Cowl or fibreglass construction, we have the knowledge to keep them at their best.

Specialists of Kent Peg Tiling
As mentioned in the section above, we are specialists in the construction of Kiln roofs and with that we specialise in the tiling of them too. From tiling in the odd missing patch, to a full re tile we do it all. During our time working on Oast houses, we have seen the work of many a decent roof tiler. But when it comes to the tiling of a roundel, it’s a whole different ball game and many have got themselves into difficulties, trying to get to grips with the square peg and tapered peg tiles, that’s needed to tile a roundel.
GRP (Fibreglass) Roof systems.
We at G&S are fully qualified in the use of GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) also known as Fibreglass. GRP is a great product, both tough and durable. A GRP roof is much more durable than felt and stronger too. A fibreglass roof will last for more than 20 years and it's less likely than felt to develop a fault. We use GRP for flat roofs, valleys, and also the tops of kiln roofs.
